'Australian based breeder and exhibitor of Brittany's'
The Uwish Brittany team is made up of Andrew & Vanessa Bourne, and our two kids Hayley and Jake. We live in Carwoola just outside of Canberra on 40 acres.
Vanessa and Myself where drawn into the Dog World by my father Damian Bourne (Tornadobe Dobermann's and GSP's). Dad let Vanessa show and then own Multi Best in Show winning, Aust Ch Tornadobe Iron Horse (Rex) in Darwin, which of course, caused her to get the showing bug in a big way. I have watched what Dad has done with his breeding programs over the last 30 years and decided in 2002 that it was time to start buying dogs to start our own line in conjunction with Tornadobe Kennels. Hence it started for the both of us.
Our first venture was obviously with the Doberman's who we loved dearly and have been very successful with. We started by buying a baby puppy bitch who we knew was WDV Clear. Aust Ch Scharmeland Venus Envy. Venus is a RBIS winner but did not really like to show. She has however produced some beautiful babies for us. Our next dog still lives with us and sleeps most nights either on our bed or next to it. He is Aust Grand Champion Vansitar Black Russian. BJ with Dad showing him has to date had an outstanding show career, winning 12 Best In Shows, 10 Runner up to Best In Shows, and over 40 best In Groups. On top of this he won the Open Dog Class, and reserve Dog Challenge at the 2007 National in Melbourne. BJ will still come out and show occassionally with his Brittany mates, but his main role is to look after the house and the couch during the day, a job which he excels at.
Early 2003, Dad had a litter of GSP's. Having had GSP's as a kid living in Darwin, I already loved the breed. When we saw the litter, there was a little bloke who caught our attention immediately. He had these huge ears and vibrant white markings, and looked so lonely sitting by himself quietly in the corner. Again we where lucky enough to have Dad allow us to take him home with us and he turned out to be Multi Runner Up To Best In Show, and Runner Up To Best In Specialty Show winning Aust Grand Ch Tornadobe Bill Bailey, who is Tornadobe's first Grand Champion GSP.
A friend of ours Jenny Cattell then suggested we look at getting a Brittany for Hayley to show. At the time we scoffed not really knowing what a Brittany was, but when she mentioned again in 2005 that her friend Fiona from Tobenlee brittany's had a suitable dog for Hayley to show we jumped at the idea. Into our lives came a once in a lifetime Brittany who we will now spend the rest of our lives trying to re-produce and indeed improve where possible.
Multi Best In Show, Multi Runner Up To Best In Show, and Best In Specialty Show winning Aust Grand Champion Tendayi Dare Ya Ta Whispa, has done what no other Brittany has ever done, which is winning Multiple Best In Shows at All Breeds Championship Shows in Australia. To read about his exploits check out his page. Spinner has changed our direction with breeding, as we our now 100% committed to breeding and Showing only Brittany's. .
BJ, Bill and Spinner have all gone on to have brilliant show careers and all gained their Grand Champion Titles. I don't know of too many show homes that have three Grand Champions, all in different breeds living with them. Together they have 18 Best in Shows, 18 Runner up Best in Shows, and 73 Best in Groups. They are our foundation and we have been blessed to be owned by them.
We have since imported two male Brittany's from the Dogwood Hollow gang in Tennessee, America. Eddie (Aust Ch Dogwood Hollow Pot Black) a beautiful Liver/White boy, and more recently Truman (Am Ch Dogwood Hollow The Buck Stops Here) who arrived in October 2010.
With Spinner, Eddie and now Truman as our foundation Stud Dogs, and our young beautiful Tobenlee girls, we now have the foundations of Uwish Brittanys, which we hope over time, will become one of Australia's leading Brittany Kennels.
Uwish Brittanys will only breed from selective Brittanys to improve the breed. All Brittanys will be health tested via hip, elbow and eye scoring, and will only be bred from once they pass these tests. Our aim is to breed superb genetically sound dogs who excel in conformation and most importantly, Temperament.
